My Top Purchases for Homeschool Success

What to buy for preschool age – elementary school

If you are just starting out homeschooling and feel overwhelmed what to buy, look no further. I have a handful of basic homeschool which I purchased through Etsy and Amazon for my toddler that I can use for preschool-elementary age. These timeless items can be used for many different school projects, and will last throughout the years of homeschooling.

MY HOMESCHOOL APPROACH:

I love Montessori learning, many of these homeschool items are Montessori inspired. I also have collected a ton of books! While I love going to the library, put me in a Tattered Cover and might as well be a kid in a candy store. I have included some of my favorite nature and learning books for homeschooling.

1. Alphabet letters

2. 20’s board

3. Set of scoops

4. Sensory chickpeas

5. Animal Lifecycles

6. Grimms Rainbow + People

7. Musical Insturments

8. Paint Sticks

9. Kitchen Stool

10. Dry Erase Sleeves

11. Magnetic Tiles

12. Croccidle Creek Puzzles

13. Laminator and Sheets

14. My Favorite Books

I have to admit I have a minor shopping problem, so when it comes to homeschooling I’m so eager to buy everything from the Etsy and Bullseyes Playground at Target. These items are super easy to transport, throw in a backpack and take to “school” in a botanical garden, zoo, hike, etc. We love taking our scavenger hunts and learning units to the local botanical gardens here, and if we are in the middle of studying an animal that we might see there I like to bring the animal lifecycle and a craft to do as well. Also pro tip: make sure to bring tape if you are doing a craft, as the wind loves to kick up and swoop those precious projects away.

HOMESCHOOLING AT THE GARDENS:

We love doing “unit studies” right now. My 3-year-old is at an age where it’s so fun to feed into what she likes. She just soaks it all up like a sponge. She has loves owls, frogs, and cactus, so whenever we see those in nature she is beyond ecstatic. I recently started bringing crafts along with our outdoor adventures, one of the gardens we go to a lot has picnic tables and a cafe. Pro tip: I highly recommend bringing tape if you are going to do crafts outdoors. The wind can cause a sad day for those precious pieces of work.

I love how we can go to the same place over, and over, and over but when we are in a unit study we tune into new things.

At home, I have a homeschool system to rotate toys, puzzles, and crafts based on the season and what we are studying. Homeschool comes with A LOT of stuff, this system makes those toys and crafts exciting because we are learning about them. Also, gives me a structured time when to bring them into the house. If you haven’t read it yet, I have a backstock of storage, here’s how I organize all the fun homeschool items.
